About the Author
Captain Sam is an accomplished Pilot and an Air Accident Investigator of international repute. An ICAO qualified and certified Safety Management Systems trainer, his Aviation career has spanned over 30 years. He has to his credit experience of military combat operations; air accident investigations; airport design, construction and management; and aviation support to the Oil and Gas Industry. Waiting to happen

Waiting to Happen ,demonstrates the length an investigation may undergo to up hole the moral and social obligations that is necessary to maintain and proliferate the future of a society. “Waiting…” is not a book about politics or religion, but it does illustrate what those in the “belt way” and industry should to do to be fair to society and workers. While this book is about a plane accident, it also demonstrates that being safe in the air is more than searching suitcases or doing body pat down of travelers. The author in Waiting… is not afraid to put his integrity and expertise on the line to arrive at some truth about this accident; and in doing so has created a moral paradigm in which to follow and what the consequences can be when it is not. A New Look at an Old Problem

From the very beginning it is apparent that there has been extensive research into writing this book.While the book covers a lot of old ground in human factors,it does so with a laser focus on one of the most recent accidents in Indian aviation history.This book is a must read for all aviation professionals,enthusiasts,managers, regulators and, above all,bureaucrats.The indictment handed down to the aviation industry in India is severe and hard hitting.The author also highlights the role of management of safety by aviation operators.He does so by telling the story of obscure accidents which are lost in the noise of the bigger ones across the world.
The book has its flaws.The grammar at times can be inconsistent.There is unnecessary use of capitalization.There is a lot of ground that is covered with unnecessary repetition.All that should not detract from the message of the book: If we are looking for a scapegoat ,look no further than the pilot.If we are looking for solutions, then we need to dig deeper into the organization and regulation.
All in all a welcome addition to a safety professional's library.

About the Author
Edward T. Welch (PhD, University of Utah) serves both the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF) and Westminster Theological Seminary. At CCEF, he is director of counseling and academic dean, as well as a counselor and faculty member. At Westminster, he is professor of practical theology. He is author of Blame It on the Brain and When People Are Big and God Is Small and has contributed to several other books and journals, including the Journal of Psychology and Christianity.

Very helpful little booklet!

This is some of the best information on the subject that I have found. Great for sufferers AND those who love them. Depression is a very real condition and not something you can just 'will' away. This small booklet is full of good information and not overwhelming at all. I have purchased several and given them to people I love who suffer with depression. All have told me that they found it very helpful.

VERY STRONG BELIEVER IN THE FALLEN OR ILL BODY

Dr. Welch has always been a strong supporter of biological illnesses impacting mood. He assumes this is part of English speaking culture. He has always encouraged my physiology work, neurology work and psychopharmacology work.

He has done advanced doctoral work on physiology and primates.

I think to cut to chase he appeals that we can make good things into gods. Many would agree and use other terms. HE IS A RADICAL THEIST. HE THINKS AND WRITES IN A WORLD WITH A PERSONAL GOD WHO IS LOVING AND ALSO HOLY.

That latter word is rare these days.

Simply, he appeals to people not to embrace victimization, since that makes things worse if stay in that place, but that suffering and actions that are not constructive undermine emotional health.

Dr. Ed can say new things about old set principles and it is not obvious since saying in a way that is not boring.

He is happy to steal ideas from all genres of psychology, his area, but is not the slave of any.

This is a kind, humble and very caring man. He does NOT believe in the trivialization of faith as a wart on the body.

I say to all psychologists that one should not waste time if signs of a biological component, but I see that in too MANY non-MD mental health workers. And Dr. Welch is not anti-pharmacology, but may want to be sure it is not due to an addiction or due to serial affairs if depression is modest. If the drugs or actions increase despair and a feeling of slavery, he may address this to help you. Since body damage and treating people as things in alienated sex is not generally helpful to mood--unless one is a psychopath.

About the Author
Poet David Whyte grew up with a strong, imaginative influence from his Irish mother among the hills and valleys of his father s Yorkshire. He now makes his home, with his family, in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.

The author of seven books of poetry and four books of prose, David Whyte holds a degree in Marine Zoology and has traveled extensively, including living and working as a naturalist guide in the Galapagos Islands and leading anthropological and natural history expeditions in the Andes, the Amazon and the Himalaya. He brings this wealth of experience to his poetry, lectures and workshops.

His life as a poet has created a readership and listenership in three normally mutually exclusive areas: the literate world of readings that most poets inhabit, the psychological and theological worlds of philosophical enquiry and the world of vocation, work and organizational leadership.

An Associate Fellow at Templeton College and Said Business School at the University of Oxford, he is one of the few poets to take his perspectives on creativity into the field of organizational development, where he works with many European, American and international companies. In spring of 2008 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Neumann College, Pennsylvania.

In organizational settings, using poetry and thoughtful commentary, he illustrates how we can foster qualities of courage and engagement; qualities needed if we are to respond to today s call for increased creativity and adaptability in the workplace. He brings a unique and important contribution to our understanding of the nature of individual and organizational change particularly through his perspectives on Conversational Leadership.

Irvy W. Goossen, a teacher and student of the Navajo language and author of Navajo Made Easier: A Course in Conversational Navajo writes: "Through the years of living on and near the Reservation there have been hundreds of people who have helped me with the language. The twelve years at Northern Arizona University helped me to improve my ability to teach and to consolidate my knowledge of linguistic features."

good attempt at an incredibly difficult task

I first went through Goosen's book from the 60s, "Navajo Made Easier." It was a pretty good way to learn some basics, but quite dated. (Just one example: Todilchxoshi giinsi baah ili, "Soda pop costs 15¢") Dine Bizaad is a much more modern and linguistically sound textbook. Navajo is insanely difficult; it would take a lifetime to develop fluency. But overall Goosen's approach suits me. One caveat: the book was designed to be used in a classroom setting, so if you don't understand something, there might not be an explanation in the text.

Dine Bizaad: Speak, Read, Write Navajo

This is an excellent introduction to the Navajho language. When used with a set of tapes it provides a solid understanding of the basics of the language. I found the tapes particularly helpful in understanding the pronunciation as many of the sounds are very different from English and difficult to master.

This book/audio set is a vast improvement over Mr. Goossen's previous course, NAVAJO MADE EASIER (!). Navajo (and the other Southern Athabascan languages) is a notoriously difficult language to learn. Much of the difficulty, aside from its alien structure and sound system, is due the cultural aspects of the language - - why things are said the way they are in given cultural contexts. Fortunately, Mr. Goossen goes to great lengths to explain these aspects so the book is truly more than just a language text-book. If you have any interest in learning Navajo, be prepared - - you are embarking on a lengthy, sometimes frustrating but immanently rewarding learning experience. DINE BIZAAD is probably the best course available, but be sure to get the audio portion of the course as well as the text-book as Navajo, like any language, must be heard (definitely more so than say, a Romance or Germanic language) to be fully assimilated. And if you're in the Four Corners area, tune into the Navajo language stations. We've found three of them, one out of Window Rock (Tseghahoodzani) and two from Farmington (Tota). Good luck on your journey.
