The Truth is heavy.

There's a quote that sums up for me much of the learning from this book: "The Truth is heavy. That's why few care to carry it."
I met Nina when I was presenting to CEO Groups myself-- and I bought her book, even though she offered to give it to me. I'm glad I paid for it because now I am free to comment without feeling any pressure of reciprocity.
And I realized after taking time to really think about the "heavy Truth" revealed in this book that I have been paying for my relationship mistakes for years-- paying a price with my time, with my emotions, and with my heart...
Although I didn't let Nina give me the book, she has given me a gift by writing the Truth.
Anyone who is truly interested in getting better results than they have gotten-- should stop doing what they've always done.
This book has helped me to see a path to get to those better results.

You don't have to be a CEO to have this book transform your dating life. Any guy at any level will have an amazing change in the results he gets as a result of employing the methods taught in Date Like A CEO. Nina Atwood has written awesome books for women, and helped thousands to find better, healthier, and longer lasting relationships as a result. Now, she has written one for men, and I think she out did herself! As a result of reading this book, I have been meeting a much higher caliber of woman, who is much more in line with the right woman for me.

best dating book for men

I'm recently divorced, in my 50s, and wanted a plan to be smart about looking for a new wife. I've read quite a few books but this is the best one once you start lining up dates. I just had one of the conversations recommended with a great woman I've seen 6 times now and it solidified the slowly growing bond. These aren't manipulative techniques, but rather wholesome guidelines to seeking and assessing a future mate with the greatest integrity.

About the Author

Dan Stone was a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and served as a pastor for sixteen years and in administration at Georgetown College and Samford University.  He traveled the U.S. sharing the message of “Christ in you” for more than twenty years. He authored the Union Life Ministries book The Mystery of the Gospel, as well as numerous articles and booklets. Dan finished his earthly course in 2005 and joined his Lord in heaven.

David Gregory is the author of several books including the New York Times bestseller Dinner with a Perfect Stranger and Christy Award finalist The Last Christian. David earned masters degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary and the University of North Texas. He now writes full time and lives in the Pacific Northwest.

Life-Changing Truth -- Who We are in Christ and How God Really Sees Us

I admit I haven't finished the entire book, but this book has been a life-changing (for the good) one. While the Bible is the most important book for Christians, "The Rest of the Gospel" helps explain in detail the realities of who Christians are in Christ and how God really sees us. It reminds Christ-followers that Jesus called us to abundant life, and that it is possible to have that here on earth before it is realized in its fullness in Heaven. While the author quotes several Scriptures, the theme verse of the book is 2 Corinthians 4:18 -- So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. This book has some in-depth concepts, so I often times have to set it aside to let them sink in and to allow the Holy Spirit it speak to me about them. However, one doesn't have to have a seminary degree in order to understand, just a desire to truly learn more about the true (eternal) reality.

Have you reached a point where you discovered it is impossible to live the Christian life? This is the book for you

Twenty-five years after I became a believer, I realized that it was impossible for me to live out the Christian life! I tried everything: seminars, bible studies, Bible reading programs, spirit filled living, tithing, worshiping, just about everything. I was told that I had to be more disciplined and witness more, give more, memorize more bible verses, try harder, love more, etc. All good things, but I didn't have the strength to do it all. Why was there still a frustration about living the Christian life?

Dan Stone's book gave me the scriptural basis to see that I could not live the Christian life, in my own strength, only Christ in me, living His life out through me, as me, was the answer. Freedom! I got off the "must perform for God to keep up my acceptance". I could rest in Him, knowing that I was accepted, righteous, loved and fully complete in Him. No more trying to pull off the Christian life in my own efforts and then asking God to bless my efforts!

With this new understanding and acceptance, I witness more, love my wife, kids, neighbors, read the word, etc. with a new dynamic, freedom and energy. Talk about getting rid of the guilt of not measuring up! I am no longer under a bondage of: "What can I do for God". Instead, I seek: "What can God do through me". There is a big difference.

If you were like me, and knew deep down that there must be more to living the Christian life than another program, or sending seed money in to get blessed, then this is the book for you. As you take Stone's scriptural cites back to the work and pray about them, I know that the Spirit will give you new revelation about your identity in Christ and how to rest in Him.

A true Christian classic on living life. A must read.

A book on how to live the abundant life to the finished work of Christ

For the past few years, I've been reading lots of books about the grace of God. And all of those books laid a wonderful foundation for the finished work of Christ. But most of them did not really walk you through on how to apply that grace to everyday life. The idea of living the abundant life was more of a dream I wanted, rather than something I experienced. "The Rest of the Gospel" walks you through how to live the abundant life by letting Christ live through you, as you. The concepts are deep and require slow, thoughtful reading, but the ideas are spot on and scripturally sound. I look forward to reading this numerous times. I love this book!

I would recommend this to anyone who writes and self-edits

Flawlessly well-written, as one would expect, I found this book simple to follow, brimming with clear examples and solid on grammar/spelling/punctuation usage. I will be dipping into it much as I write and edit and have already implemented a style guide based on its template. There are many suggested ways of copy-editing, proofreading — you get to test-drive which methods suits you — with little pieces from experienced editors on how they approach their work. I would recommend this to anyone who writes and self-edits, from indie authors such as me to bloggers. This book is very practical and gets you up to speed fast.

Middle of the Road

I had to take a proofreading test for a job interview, so I thought this book might help me brush up on my proofreading skills. I didn't really like the general information, I found the advice to be very obvious and I feel like you could get that information for free on the internet. However, I did find the exercises to be somewhat helpful. Dedicating an entire exercise to "there, their, and they're" may not have been that constructive, but some of the other exercises did help me pay greater attention to detail for the test.

Good premise cannot overcome lack of quality

First some context for my review. I am a huge fan of Disney Media and Parks, but willing to see faults when they are there. I love the theme park experience both actually doing it, and visiting vicariously through other's accounts of trips to the parks, which is what the description of this book promised. I will admit that this review is based on a partial reading of the text, but if I am not enjoying something, I am in no way obligated to continue through to the end to give it a fair chance, and while there are some gems hidden in there, all the digging one has to do to find them, gives too little reward for too much effort.

The first report, by Larry, seemed to focus on the negative. I actually came away with the impression that he does not enjoy Disney World at all, but visits there time after time to satisfy some sort of compulsion, or he thinks that finding and relaying fault is an enjoyable pursuit. It is obvious he has a clear idea of the "right" way to do a Disney trip, and refers to those who do things differently as "losers".

The second trip report was also by Larry, but not wanting to work through another one, I skipped ahead to Robin's first trip report. This was much more enjoyable, as she seemed to convey joy and happiness, as well as relating the experiences of her young nephew, and a few friendly interactions with other guests (the very young girl dressed as Cinderella she interacted with stands out to me). And while the tone was an improvement over Larry, it did share some of the lack of quality that detracts from this book overall.

It is clear that this book could have benefited by some competent (or any) proofreading and copy-editing. It seems to be self-edited by the authors, and a parsing through an automated spell check was done and it was called good. This leads to many problems which should be unexcusable in a professional work, such as substituting the word "Fist" instead of "First". Even allowing for differences in British and American spellings, this was most evident in Larry's trip report, but was still present in Robin's.

I am also under the impression, that these reports are very "stream of consciousness" probably intended to be posted on an online forum. They have a very unrefined "first draft" quality to them. Reading these on a free forum where they are members of a community I belong to, this could be forgiven -- or even expected. But as a commercial product? They should have gone through some editorial process, and refined and polished these reports.

One of the things I would have left out in the transition from forum to print (or whatever the equivalent of an e-book is) is to remove the use of acronyms. I can understand the use of them in a fan-forum when you are typing off the cuff, and the acronyms are commonly known and used in replies, but again in a published book, it just looks unprofessional. One thing that was very annoying about this practice, is that an attraction would be mentioned, then an acronym given in parentheses after it, only for the acronym to not appear anywhere else in the narrative.

In summary, this had the potential to be good with a little more effort and professionalism, unfortunately, the authors failed to bring this to bear.
