Not just about love languages

I wasn't sure how this was going to be because how much more can you learn about one topic when he's written so many books on it. However, in this book he focuses on defining more deeply love languages and communication. He also delves into conflicts, negative emotions, and resolving them. Afterwards he steps into three basic needs - love, respect, appreciation - and then focuses on types of intimacy - physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual. I found it to be helpful and interesting

Dr. Chapman reminds us that our first line of defense is to recognize that marriage is a covenant. Once we recognise this fact, then half the battle has been won. The other half is spent learning how to communicate over thoughts, feelings, opinions, desires, frustrations and dreams in a positive manner.

The author teaches that intimacy is at the heart of marital satisfaction. I am happy to see that Dr. Chapman goes on to explain that in order to have sexual intimacy, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual intimacy must also be present.

If you are looking for an academic, theory filled book then this is not the book for you. However, if you are looking for a practical, down-to-earth guide then you are in the right place.

This book is for newlyweds as well as couples who have been married for a number of years, I would also add that this could be a good read for engaged couples.

Dr. Chapman provides simple practical steps that are easy to follow in order to build a lasting and happy marriage.

Great For Some, Okay For Others.

I wasn't a big fan of this book, however, others in my Small Group liked it. I felt the speech was too formal & old fashioned for some of the modern topics at hand and I also thought Igor was geared toward newer married couples, not old timers with grown kids. That said, every book on self-improvement & Christian values will have something to help you out & give you an "Oh!" moment. Reading this book will remind you of God's will in your life & marriage.

I just received this book and after reading it, give my recommendation. In each lesson contains a list of target idioms, explaination, examples, a practice exercise, and a story using the targeted idioms. The idioms are commonly used in conversations. Eventhough I haven't had the opportunity to use the book yet, experience has it that it will be very practical and help TOFL students improve their english.

This is a terrific idiom book for ESL learners

This is a terrific idiom book for ESL learners. I have been a volunteer ESL tutor for 8 years, and I am using this book now. The idioms are extremely useful, Americanized phrases -- not "silly" idioms like "piece of cake" or "beat a dead horse." Rather, they are phrasal verbs and phrasal idioms such as "might as well," "look over," "stay put," "under the weather," and "fed up with." Each chapter contains 10 idioms, and each idiom is well defined, with examples. There is a practice exercise (multiple choice) for the student, a dialogue practice and a story that contains all the idioms in every chapter. A teacher or creative tutor can easily create his own exercises as well, for additional student practice. I don't like Book 1 in this series as well. It doesn't seem as well developed. But this book, Book 2, is very useful and enjoyable for students.

Not to bad if required by professor

Pros: The book has a nice cover and the first few chapters were not too bad. The material was kind of bland, but the subject is really interesting in itself. You really need to understand the concepts and where they come from because if you don't, then you are going to hate this book. I especially liked the chapter on data marts and data warehouses. It really opened my eyes to the way different companies have so much information coming through them at any given time. The authors own touches to this otherwise boring content really made the book a little more bearable.

Cons: The later chapters are really boring and go extremely in depth into the subject. I would catch myself falling asleep multiple times while trying to get through one chapter. I felt as if the information was extremely repetitive and almost common sense. The book also was very flimsy and ripped on multiple occasions. Most individuals that buy this book are probably required to by your professor. Sorry if that is the case, guess you have no choice.

While I wouldn't recommend this product, if you are required by your professor to use this book, then I guess you have no choice.

Overpriced, Poorly Written; Just use Wikipedia (like the authors did)

Completely overpriced at over $80 for what could very easily be replaced by competent searches in Wikipedia (a source which the book actually cites - albeit incorrectly - in several places) and free online case studies from Business Intelligence providers like Tableau.

The case studies are repetitive; most could be summarized as "Company A used to use manual processes for information, then they used Tool B from IT Company X, and it solved all their problems." The "Questions for Discussion" following each case study are nothing more than reading comprehension questions that merely verify if you actually read the case, which is asinine considering the cases are only a few paragraphs.

Typographical and editorial errors are also embarrassingly abundant throughout the book - errors that should have been identified by a high-school student, let alone a field expert. At one point, the authors tout the age of data visualization, and include a figure of the "First Pie Chart", which is definitely not a pie chart: (image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Playfair#mediaviewer/File:Playfair_TimeSeries-2.png).

I am not sure whether I got a textbook or a brochure. It seems like the authors were too lazy to develop good cases so they went to the marketing Departments of several business intelligence companies and ask for their brochure.
It was okay for an introduction to the material. Don't buy it unless you absolutely have to for the test
