Beyond Fascinating!

Wow! An entirely different view on evolution, creationism, the Bible, etc. than anything I have ever come across. I grew up Evangelical & saw presentations on how Genesis was right & modern science was wrong, but I always felt Genesis was misunderstood & the 2 views were not diametrically opposed. (I never thought Genesis gave the impression the universe & Earth were only 5000 years old & much of the problem facing Christianity was claiming the Bible said this when I never saw that it did.)

Jeff has the background & knowledge to figure out what most of us can't. I always love his books, for he is willing & able to come up with ideas & interpretations that are completely unique. He asks the questions few seem to. If you read something by this author, you can be guaranteed that his writings will NOT be a rehashed version of everything else you read, hear, or see - it is totally different. You will ask questions & think of things in a whole new light.

An excellent & thought-provoking read for anyone, regardless of your beliefs on Genesis & the bible in general.

I must admit I have not read the third edition of this book,only the second. I anticipate any improvements the authors have considered adding will be worth the time to take in. Reading this book probably demands an appetite for knowledge as broad as Dr.Adey's, and it is clear from the references he offers that he could expand on all the information here without trouble.
But what is here! Even if the reader can never manage the resources to develop any of the systems described, the lessons taught amount to a new and comprehensive way to understand how the world biologically and physically works.As someone who had looked for this kind of information, and found it only in bits and pieces,it would be hard for me to overemphasize how valuable this piece of work is.
If you are just going about setting up your first aquarium this book will scare you with the science. The information really needs to find it's way into the hobby level through the experience and writing of others who may need to simplify the presentation. Also, the equipment that is necessary to achieve the results described here is simple, but not yet available "off the shelf" It's hard to know if it will ever be, even for those with more professional needs.The ideas are so basic, yet so radical compared to the way aquarium keeping has always been understood, that only the person who is excited by the vision of capturing a real ecological system will be interested for now.
I am a serious hobbyist with a science backround. This book, in any of it's editions, should be considered from here on as the definitive work on keeping an aquatic system healthy, whether it's in your home or outside your door.

This book explores aquarium systems as models of natural eco systems. Adey and Loveland's technique relies on algae scrubbers to reduce nitrate levels in the tank. By removing new growth of algae, one can avoid frequent water changes. The book includes extensive discussion of important aspects of marine eco systems, such as wave motion, light, and food chains, to name just a few.
The book is more about the science of building marine microcosms than a cookbook for building home marine aquariums.

About the Author
Janet Moursund is an Associate Professor Emerita, Counseling Psychology Program, University of Oregon. Dr. Moursund has also maintained a private practice in psychotherapy in Eugene, Oregon. She has authored or co-authored several books in the fields of psychotherapy and statistical research in psychology, and is the founder of the Center for Community Counseling in Eugene.

Richard Erskine is Training Director of the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy in New York City and Kent, Connecticut. He is Visiting Professor of Psychotherapy, University of Derby, UK, and serves on the faculties of several psychotherapy training institutes around the world. He has authored numerous articles on psychotherapy theory and clinical practice.

Neccessary for class

This was required reading for a principles and practices of psychotherapy course. It was an ok read, good for the topic of the class, one I would not pick up on my own for the fun of it. A bit dense at times.

Superlative

For anyone interested in Relationship-focussed Integrative Psychotherapy, or indeed what human relationship actually means and involves, this book is a seminal work. It weaves the many theories that integrative therapy embraces into a cohesive whole, both theoretically and clinically. It is engagingly written in plain jargon-free English. In fact reading it is like attending a workshop or training programme run by the writers themselves.
Providing both theoretical argument and clinical evidence that relationship is indeed the healing principle, it goes on to show exactly how this can be achieved. It provides exactly what the sub-title attests - "the art and science of relationship".
I cannot recommend it highly enough for counsellors and therapists of all levels of experience and theoretical persuasions.
